Who am I?

You'll take my Oxford Comma when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

My name is H.A. Larson, and I am a Woman of a Particular Age. I'm a writer, penning novellas and short stories about ghosts and scary things, as well as editorials for a few publications. To this end, I've written a total of seven books and three short stories with many more of both varieties in various stages of completion, and because I'm a metalhead, I've also written some editorials and reviews at Slime&Grime (RIP).

I wasn't born in the Midwest, but I was raised here and haven't left yet. I'm basically an empty nester now (one college kid at home), so I would like to plant roots somewhere new a few years down the road. Where will I go? Well, I would love nothing better than to spend my remaining days being an expat in Europe somewhere, but realistically, I will probably settle in my beloved Loess Hills (although Michigan is a close contender).

Because of a burning wanderlust that plagues me almost every moment of my life, I'm a traveler, explorer, and adventurer who can make the mundane exciting. I'm a reformed couch potato who grew a passion for the outdoors. I hike, walk, camp, and climb the highest point in each state that doesn't fill me with dread - damn vertigo - and am a sucker for a good Day Trip.

This shouldn't suggest I abhor the urban jungle. As a matter of fact, I love to indulge in everything a city has to offer. I love traveling to cities where I wander the concrete sidewalks of their downtowns, admire their skyscrapers, check out their unique shops, spend lazy afternoons in their museums, and eat a variety of cuisines I find in them. All washed down with a good local brew, of course.

I belong to the FIRE movement and am passionate about finances. I want to retire early so I can do more of the above.

Besides all of that, I like to dabble in photography, learn about history (Roman and Knights Templar history are favorites), go to Renaissance Festivals, watch horror movies, read books, make homemade booze, experiment with my bread machine, and spend evenings in wineries - to name a few.

And you know what? I write about all of it here.

Welcome to my world.
